Holocaust-memorial

In 2007 Havant Borough Council provided the Holocaust Memorial, which is located on the central island of the Eastern Road Cemetery.
The memorial is made from a block of Welsh Slate and has a stainless steel ‘flame’ mounted in a hollowed out section. The ‘flame’, which is the symbol of the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust, is to represent warmth, hope and remembrance emerging from the cold of the slate. A service is held here each year on January 27th, Holocaust Remembrance Day and the anniversary date of the liberation of Auschwitz – Birkenau concentration camp. The service is to remember all victims of the Holocaust and reflect upon those affected by more recent atrocities.

Volunteers have created a drought tolerant garden around the memorial.
